The aim of this study was to examine whether aspects of religiosity (religious
orientation, strength of religious faith, frequency of prayer and frequency of
church attendance, religious coping) are related with hope, length of being in Alcoholics
Anonymous and involvement in 12-step Program.
The sample consisted of 70 participants of Alcoholics Anonymous from Poznań. The
following tools were used: Santa Clara Strength of Religious Faith (SCSORF), The Age-
Universal I-E Scale, Religious Coping Scale (RCOPE), Herth Hope Index (HHI), oneitem
scales regarding frequency of prayer, frequency of church attendance, length of
being in Alcoholics Anonymous and involvement in 12-step Program.
Positive religious coping mediated between strength of religious faith and hope as
well as between extrinsic personal religiosity and hope. Additionally positive religious
coping mediated between involvement in 12-step Program and hope as well as length
of being in Alcoholics Anonymous and hope. Involvement in 12-step Program was
positively related to intrinsic religiosity, frequency of prayer, positive religious coping
and strength o religious faith. Length of being in Alcoholics Anonymous correlated
with intrinsic religiosity, extrinsic personal religiosity, frequency of prayer, frequency
of church attendance, positive religious coping and strength o religious faith.
