The aim of the article is to present the negative consequences of
victimization, particularly a sense of damage. People who lost their eyesight took part
in the first study. The study was aimed at examining the impact of “forgiveness” on
the subject’s quality of life. “Forgiveness” was understood as freeing oneself from the
syndrome of victimization and minimising of one’s concentration on the experienced
loss. It was expected and confirmed that the strategy of mood regulation could be
a mediator in this relationship. It turned out that blind people used the strategy of
improving their mood more often than healthy people.
Women who have had mastectomy participated in the second study. The variables
taken into consideration were subjects’ emotionality and their present mood. The
women who belong to support groups differ from the women who do not belong to
such organizations. The women belonging to support groups experience more positive
mood than negative mood as well attribute the causes of the experienced emotions to
various factors. Finally, the article presents the positive consequences that follow the
experienced trauma.
