A combination of social and demographic factors can significantly define the health of individuals in a particular group or population. The influence of the connection between subjective social status and objective social status on individual health is extremely difficult to grasp. In addition to perceived social status, many environmental and individual factors, which determine and affect human health in society, should also be taken into account. In spite of that, there is no doubt that social status and social comparisons are inextricably related to an individual’s health. The aim of this review is to show the importance of this relationship and also to demonstrate the association between the sense of low social status that includes cultural capital, income, education, occupation, and the development of many diseases, both on a biological and mental basis.
