Abstrakt
The interest in the significance of dependency for various dimensions
of human functioning is an aspect that requires particular attention especially due
to the fact that up to the present day it has remained as not fully defined and
solved. The recognition of the role of dependency could be of great value for the
compilation of intervention programmes for couple therapy and at the same time
contribute to the improvement of the quality of functioning of a dyad.
Dependence formed in the earliest years of life as a result of contact with loved
ones natural guardians, innate part of human nature (Bornstein, 1992). Acquired
in the course of later experiences with others may take the form of pathology and
dysfunction disrupting relationships, but also be a manifestation of the proper
functioning of a dyad (Bornstein, Languirand, 2003).
This paper presents the concept and dependencies in the psychological literature
(both adaptive and maladaptive). Special attention was paid to the importance of
a healthy dependency for human functioning and its role in shaping the intimate
relationships.
